Abstract

This study assessed the level of awareness and extent of integration of Global Citizenship Education dimensions among social science general education instructors and explored their strategies and challenges integrating GCED. Using a multimethod research design, data were gathered from 181 respondents and 12 participants from five state universities and colleges in eastern Philippines through researcher-made questionnaires and interview guide. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data were examined through thematic analysis. Results revealed very high level of GCED awareness and great extent of GCED integration across the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral dimensions. No significant difference was found when respondents were grouped according to educational qualifications and years of teaching experience. Qualitative results revealed varied instructional strategies across three domains, and challenges related to students, teachers, curriculum and resources, and institutional and external constraints. The results informed the development of curriculum enhancement action plan to strengthen GCED integration.
